Beetaloo Logs 36, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40 from Virtual Quilter

This project file uses just one block … the basic Log Cabin block, using a centre plus four rounds of strips.

The size of the centre square and width of the strips determines the size of the quilt. The designs in this collection would be a queen size quilt if the blocks start with cutting a 1.5 inch square and strips 1.5 inches wide, with the finished block size 9 inches.

I wonder how many different designs could be created by turning the blocks every which way?

Adding multiple colours to the mix would introduce many more variations!

With ...

Logs in a Misty Garden 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Very interesting collection of block designs … especially the pyramids with floral clouds!

Lovely!

Another lovely one.

I think the applique is a bit too much in the design above.

I like the last one … just enough applique, so the logs are an important part of the design, and there is room to show off some quilting.

Logs Around the Yard 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Filled a bin with green waste yesterday, but the back yard still looks lovely and green. Unfortunately most of the green is still weeds.

These blocks would be a bit more fiddly to make than the usual Log Cabin blocks, but the fabrics could be cut into strips and joined together and then cut into narrow strips to fir the blocks.

I think I should add more colours to the designs … one day when I have nothing to do and expect no interruptions! It probably wouldn’t work as when I don’t expect interruptions I get lots.

If we ...

Logs OP + 36, 37, 38, 39, 40 from Virtual Quilter

Looks a bit like a giant flower in the centre if it was a queen size quilt, even on a placemat it would be a fairly big flower! Could be fun playing with colour in this design.

This is the duplicate project file which became Fishing (Log) Cabin 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 … that’s enough! just before I deleted the double.

I like the design above … even if the fish are starting to go into hiding.

In the design above it has become more of a star burst!

It has now become a rather boring design ...

Logs in an Outback Garden 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

Introducing a project file with several variations of Log Cabin blocks along with a mixed bag of applique designs based on some of Australia’s native flora. It has taken about a month to sort out colours for the background Log Cabin blocks, but the colour of the flowers was easier as many of the varieties of flora native to this country might have different colour flowers, and most of them have red included in the family.

Some of the pieced backgrounds designs would look OK without the applique added, like the one above and below, but others, like the ...

TNT Logs + 111, 112, 113, 114, 115 from Virtual Quilter

Very interesting.

Love the second design for today!

Love the third one too.

The one above is very interesting, but too many points for my taste.

The project file these designs come from has over 500 designs in it, and each time I open it I add more.

I think I might be addicted to designing quilts in Electric Quilt, but I am not looking for a cure to my addiction! I am going to add a few more designs as soon as I hit the schedule button on this post.

Fishing Cabin 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

The plan for this evening’s meal is fish, so I had a play with some pieces of fish!

I love watching schools of fish swimming in all directions, and never seeming to run into each other.

I see these as tablecloths rather than quilts to go on beds … not too many of us would like fish laying on the bed for a day, let alone months or even years.

A single fish would be great on a placemat, and they would be ok on coasters too.

Must remember to get the fish out of the freezer about lunch time ...

Cornerstone Logs + Bright Blue 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Impressive.

Oops! Can you pick the mistake?

I like the design above.

Another impressive design.

I like all of these designs, and despite not liking blue, I like the colouring.

Perhaps it is the purple patches.

That is all the Log Cabin designs for this week, but there will be more mid week, next week.

Cornerstone Logs + Juicy Citrus 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting.

The first design was very similar to the average Cornerstones quilt, but the second is very different!

I like the one above.

I like the one above too…. going to be hard to pick a favourite this week!

I think I can call the last Log Cabin variation a modern design.

That is all for this week’s Log Cabin retreat for quilters who like Log Cabin quilt designs.

More next week, mid week.

Cornerstone Logs + Hot Pinks 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Playing with this project over the next few months could help me believe that it is warm outside, but I doubt it! Cold weather affects my body enough to remind me what the weather is like even without looking outside. However, I love the colours, and the designs are heart warming.

Love the second one!

The one above is interesting!

Another interesting design.

I love the last one for today, and for this week’s Log Cabin retreat.

More Log Cabin variations mid week, next week.

Logs at Lochiel 56, 57, 58, 59, 60 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting start to this week’s collection of Log Cabin quilt designs.

Different!

We went through Lochiel recently, and the sometimes pink lake was showing off it’s end of a dusty, dry summer colours … it just looked dry and dusty. Hopefully some rain will come soon and clean it up, and the pink will appear again.

I like the one above.

Interesting.

Love the last one for this week.

Cornerstone Logs + Black Crows 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

A very interesting start to todays collection of Log Cabin quilts using modified colour placement in many of the blocks.

The second is not as striking as the first design, but interesting.

The design above is probably my favourite for this week’s Log Cabin retreat …

… or maybe the next one!

I like the last one … it looks like a layout designed by a group of quilters who are listening to dance music as they try to work out how to place the blocks.

It would be interesting to use these designs using Log Cabin blocks but using the same ...

TNT Logs 76, 77, 78, 79, 80 from Virtual Quilter

Middle of another week already!

Interesting design to start with, but I have to admit not one I would consider making, but there are plenty of choices. There are over 270 quilt designs in this project file, all using just two different blocks, and I don’t think I have included the more basic layouts!

The second design would look ok with regular Log Cabin blocks, and I like the Thick and Thin version too.

I like the one above!

This one uses the alternative colourway of the Thick and Thin Log Cabin block, using the same layout as the ...

Log Cabin 61, 62, 63, 64, 65 from Virtual Quilter

I like the first Log Cabin design this week, simple by eye catching.

The second one has a star in the middle too, but different to the first one.

The third is rather neat and tidy, and I like it a lot.

Turning four blocks around makes a big difference. I like it better than the last one.

Seeing a star again to finish today’s selection of Log Cabin quilt designs.

All of the designs in this project file can be made with the same blocks … with identical fabrics in all, or well sorted scraps, and just keep playing ...

Bundaleer Logs 66, 67, 68, 69, 70 from Virtual Quilter

Looks like the square in the centre is doing a somersault!

I love the design above, but if I ever make it I would fill in the corners a little bit.

The third design for today made me think of the pair of pipelines which pass not too far from the Bundaleer Reservoir which shares a name with the forest I was thinking of when I named this project file.

I was having fun when I was playing with the designs in this project file, and the design above is the result of one of the most enjoyable moments.

Curved Cornerstones + 121, 122, 123, 124, 125 from Virtual Quilter

A bit different to the average Log Cabin Quilt!

I like the one above … once again, very different!

Middle one for this week, and it is about the most ordinary of the five.

I have just had an idea … what if I the Drunkards Path template was enlarged and pieced along with some plain squares, and arranged in some of these designs? Perhaps it could be a great way to use large floral fabrics.

Finishing this week’s collection of Log Cabin designs is one more very different arrangement.

That is all for this week, more Log Cabin designs to ...

Logs on Point in Purple 66, 67, 68, 69, 70 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting. Looks like four crowns around the outside!

Now there are very wide Ws around the edge.

How to turn W into a V!

Now I have and 8 laying across teh design.

Something different, though all of today’s designs are a bit different!

They’re a weird mob today, but interesting to see what happens when I play with a simple collection of Log Cabin Blocks.

More Log Cabin quilt designs mid week, next week.

Curved Cornerstones + 116, 117, 118, 119, 120 from Virtual Quilter

The first design makes me think of a spider web. Interesting.

The design above is interesting too.

I like the design above!

Another interesting design.

I like the last for this week too!

I love going to a quilt exhibition and seeing Log Cabin quilts, but am disappointed that almost all of them are replicas of age old designs … nothing new. My favourite Log Cabin designs include some of those age old designs, but I would love to see new designs too … some of them could added to my favourites.

Cornerstone Logs + Black Crows 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

New project file started because I had over 500 designs in one. I saved about 100 in each of five project files and changed the colour combinations in each one.

A bit dark for me, but interesting design.

Like the design above.

There is an interesting effect on the computer screen of the five designs I have saved for today’s mid week retreat, where they are postage stamp size images ready to select to add to the post … the designs appear to by purple!

Perhaps I need another coffee, or maybe I have had more than enough already. Or ...

Beetaloo Logs 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 from Virtual Quilter

Make lots of identical Log Cabin blocks and arrange them as desired!

Then turn them all 180 degrees to turn the design inside out. Makes quite a difference!

Make a few modifications to the first design.

Looks totally different!

In the final design the blocks as laid out in the design above were turned 90 degrees.

Any collection of identical Log Cabin blocks can be arranged in dozens of different ways in 4 x 4, 6 x 6, 8 x 8, 10 x 10 or 12 x 12. A row or two removed from each side of the layouts creates ...
